Navigating Alternative Health
Where do I start? There's an overwhelming amount of information out there: kinds of work, different practitioners, diagnoses and quick fixes. A fair amount is designed to guide you to one partticular modality or other, or reflects the biases of the presenter (this work is good, that work isn't). Much of it overlaps, contradicts, or ignores important factors. Where do you begin? What do you need? Alternative and complementary medicine works differently from allopathic (traditional western) medicine. Finding your symptom in a list and following the recommendation is usually not the way to get the most this kind of work has to offer. The most important information you have is who you are. Your history, constitution, personality, and strengths will guide you more surely than any book, once you know how to read them. Come spend some time learning how to read what your body is telling you. You will leave with a clearer picture of your unique internal map, and how to use it when looking for work. We'll also cover what to look for in a practitioner (not just skill, but compatability), and what you can do to get the most out of your work with them. Come on down, and make sure your investment in yourself is doing all it can for you!
